Environmental approach
Incorporation of bio-based materials:
42.60 kg/m² of GFA. External wall insulation in wood fibre; timber acoustic and thermal panels to the underside of the market hall floor slab. Lightweight partitions incorporating insulation made from hemp, flax and cotton fibres.
Materials are bio-based and sourced through short supply chains. Structural timber elements such as the roof structure / timber portal frame will come from a local supply chain. Integration of reclaimed materials, notably for the architectural timber ceilings of the market and the multi-purpose hall.
Modularity and flexibility
Multi-purpose use, at all levels.
Spaces are designed to adapt to different operating modes, including the management of flows, hygiene and ancillary services. This modularity ensures optimal long-term operation of the building.

Renovation of the covered market and its function hall in the city of Libourne.
The project is rooted in a commitment to an active dialogue between architecture and the urban context. Drawing on the spirit of traditional market halls, it adopts a pared-back, instantly recognisable volume—clearly identifiable as a market—while improving accessibility and welcoming users through the creation of a public square. From Place Abel Surchamp, the silhouette leaves no doubt: Libourne’s covered market regains its identity.
The design combines transparency and opacity according to use: a bright, permeable market hall; a multi-purpose hall suited to performances; technical areas on a mezzanine level; and a discreet rooftop.
A late-19th-century covered market hall.
