Hôtel de Logistique Urbaine

Nanterre
Baaum - Hôtel de Logistique Urbaine

Winner of the SIMI Logistics Real Estate Grand Prix 2023
Construction Trophy 2024, category Renovation – Office Building

This is the first two-level Urban Logistics Hotel to be 100% refurbished, with a fully controlled carbon footprint.
The two-level design is driven by the ambition to retain as much of the existing structure as possible, enabling optimal operations while limiting land take. Serving e-commerce and a decarbonised city, the Nanterre building is powered by a photovoltaic plant comprising 1,200 panels generating 500 kilowatts, covering 30% of its energy consumption.

The conversion of this former postal sorting facility into an Urban Logistics Hotel (ULH) aims to transform the building into a logistics hub dedicated to parcel processing.

The project involves the major restructuring of a 1970s building with a column-and-beam structural system, comprising an operational area over two levels (G+1) and a technical and office component rising to four levels (G+3).

This type of modern and innovative logistics hub for La Poste enables parcels to be redistributed directly onto light vehicles such as electric vans, which requires these vehicles to access the interior of the building.

The restructuring of the site primarily focuses on the management of inbound and outbound vehicle flows, both across the site and within the building itself. At the same time, Poste Immo seeks to improve staff working conditions and enhance the site’s environmental performance, in line with its commitments to a working environment that respects both people and nature.

The project introduces translucent polycarbonate panels across the full height of the three façades of the production area, allowing maximum daylight to penetrate deep into the heart of the building. The south-west gable, facing the site entrance and currently entirely opaque, will be largely glazed to signal the new entrance to the building. It will provide access to a full-height atrium, conceived as a unifying space that fosters a sense of openness and communication among site personnel.
