Baaum - Gastronomia

Heritage-led rehabilitation of former industrial halls, with the aim of transforming and converting them into a commercial and leisure destination dedicated to food, named Gastronomia, together with a multi-storey parking structure. The programme comprises a new mixed-use development including retail, offices, housing and parking facilities.

The ambition of Gastronomia is to create an atypical venue, deeply rooted in Seraing’s industrial history: a vibrant and festive place that challenges conventional approaches to food and dining by bringing together, within a single destination, a “dining market”, short food supply chains, social gathering spaces and cultural events.

The City of Seraing embarked on a proactive and ambitious urban regeneration strategy with the adoption of a Master Plan in 2005, identifying the full range of actions required to reclaim and transform the former industrial valley.
This project forms part of that broader ambition to revitalise Seraing’s city centre through the reconversion and enhancement of an architectural heritage shaped by 200 years of industrial prosperity. The halls concerned are identified in the Master Plan as “landmark buildings”, assigning them the role of architectural and urban markers, with strong heritage value and the status of a symbolic, totemic place for the city. Gastronomia also faces a series of distinctive contemporary landmarks, including Neocittà, the Administrative Centre, and the “Orangerie” building, headquarters of CMI-new modern emblems of the city.

Heritage redevelopment of former industrial buildings to transform and develop them into commercial and leisure space dedicated to food, called “ Gastronomia,” along with a multi-level car park.
Construction of a new mixed-use ensemble including shops, offices and housing, with car parks.
