Creation of a contemporary art foundation (the first exhibition centre for Caribbean art) within a historic site.
The Habitation Clément is a concentrate of images of Martinique. A rum, a vast agricultural landscape, a luxuriant park, an exceptional industrial ensemble, rum warehouses and a historic house make up this unique territory.
The buildings – from the smallest, the cabins, to the largest, the distillery – have their place in the topography and blend in to a landscape peopled with “monument” trees.
Within this coherent and fragile ensemble, a new “room”, the Fondation Clément, devoted to contemporary art, will take its place. It has been prefigured for several years in the Cuverie (fermenting room). Beneath the wooden roof structure of the industrial site, Caribbean art has found a home.
